Tic Code (Full Frame) Set against the sights and sounds of the Greenwich Village jazz scene, "The Tic Code" is the story of three people who come to accept that, even though life doesn't always deal you a fair hand, you learn to play with the one you've got. For 12-year-old piano prodigy Miles (Christopher George Marquette) the only escape from his troubles is into the world of jazz music. Focusing on Miles' problems as a convenient way to ignore her own, his shy, gentle mother Laura (Polly Draper) secretively arranges with a jazz club owner for Miles to jam with his musical idol, saxophonist Tyrone Pike (Gregory Hines). Miles and Tyrone become instant friends, and when Tyrone meets Laura, romance blossoms. But the secret Tyrone shares with Miles threatens to destroy everything. This movie features cameos by jazz greats Dick Ber, John B. Williams and Carlos McKinney. The music sets the mood for this story about three people breaking free to find themselves by discovering each other.
Free jazz - Free jazz is a movement of jazz music characterized by diminished dependence on formal constraints. Developed in the 1950s and 1960s, it was pioneered by artists such as Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon and Paul Bley. Avant-garde jazz - Avant-garde jazz (also known as avant-jazz) is a style of music and improvisation that combines elements of avant-garde art music and composition with elements of traditional jazz. Avant-jazz overlaps with free jazz, but differs in that free jazz is generally performed with fewer, or no predetermined structure or composition. Free improvisation - Free improvisation or free music is improvised music without any rules beyond the taste of the musicians involved, and not in any particular style. The music generally thought of as "Free Improvisation" developed mainly in Europe in the mid and late 1960's, largely as an outgrowth of free jazz and modern classical musics. Oregon (music) - Oregon is an American jazz and world music group, with core members Ralph Towner (guitar, piano, synthesizer, trumpet), Paul McCandless (woodwind instruments), and Glen Moore (double bass, violin, piano).
